1. Are St. George Island Beaches Private?
One of the peculiarities of the island is that the beach areas are not private, a large number of people are dedicated annually to visiting the island to swim there and enjoy not only the beaches but also the many attractions in the surrounding area, as it is rich in culture and buildings that carry with them the history of the place and its development over time.
One of the recommendations we give you is to have an inflatable float at hand. Get total enjoyment and dedicate yourself to getting a little tan in the soft sun of the bay.
Don’t worry about having enough space, even if it is a crowded beach there is always room and places where you can be with your family without feeling the discomfort of being around a lot of people.
And the best part of all is that you will have various types of excursions available where you can ask at your vacation rental property to provide more information.
They usually have tour guides who can give you a tour of the place and tell you the history or origin of how the island was created and how it came to be what we know today: A tourist paradise for anyone looking to relax on the beach.
2. Is St. George Island Water Clear?
Yes, the water is clear. The sand is white and the sunsets are beautiful. St. George Island is a great place to vacation.
Much of the beaches of St. George are turquoise waters and are very satisfying to see, and despite constantly receiving a large number of tourists, residents and the government strive to keep the whole area clean so they can continue to enjoy the natural wonders. The beaches have signs advising to help keep the place as clean as possible so everyone visiting the island also feels comfortable.
Occasionally you can see certain species of marine fauna harmless to humans pass under your feet while swimming, most are small fish that go in shoals to feed on what some people release or simply live in bays, so they frequent the area when there is no too much movement around to risk their lives.
It is certainly very enjoyable to see them around you and feel that contact with nature that so many people seek when they go to new places.
If you want to have a more direct contact you can snorkel and watch the cool reef life underwater, although the water is so clear that from the surface you can observe them.
Also, the island has many activities to keep you busy, but there are also plenty of opportunities to relax.
You can find something to do no matter what your interests are. And, of course, the food is excellent.
3. Does St. George Island Have White Sand?
We will be totally honest in telling you that there are no completely sandy beaches on this island. Most of them have a pebble lining since they are a coastal area, but it is still enjoyable to stay here since they do not prevent you from walking and whenever you can choose to wear special water shoes for the beach that will not prevent you from enjoying the experience in case you have very delicate feet or are afraid of hurting yourself.
There are not many areas of the beach that are sandy, but they do exist, and enjoying them is quite pleasant.
We insist that you should not be discouraged by the previous point, this beach is really beautiful and enjoyable, as well as its surroundings.
If you have doubts about which are the most pleasant areas of the beach, you can ask the employees of the hotel or the vacation rental, since they are people who live in the area and can guide you in your stay so that you can enjoy the beach and the other sites of the island that are also of tourist interest.
4. Is St. George Good for Swimming?
Despite being a beach with a medium depth, it is perfect for those with a passion for swimming.
In fact, it is quite common to see some people going deep into the beach to be able to observe the fauna and flora that live there.
The only problem you might encounter here for swimming, recreational swimming, or snorkeling, is the number of people that attend this place during summer vacations.
So if you go with the intention of having a good time bussing or doing other similar activities, it is best to attend during the off-season when tourists do not frequent the area.
Although there will always be people who are attracted to this island, there are always seasons that are much less crowded than the vacation season when you can really enjoy the beach in its entirety without interruptions.
5. How long is the bridge to get to St. George Island?
The bridge that helps people get to St. George Island is almost a mile long and spans the sea. It was built in 2002 and completed and opened to the public in 2004.
Since then it is one of the most remarkable works on the island and one of the most emblematic tourist attractions for anyone who walks through this place. It is currently referred to as one of the longest in the United States and is the third-longest in Florida.
Undoubtedly a work that deserves applause for its strong structure that has remained in place for more than 15 years intact.
