How old is the Cocoa Village Playhouse?

This renowned venue has been delighting audiences since it was known as the Aladdin Theater, the doors opened to the public on August 18th, 1924, showing silent movies.

In 1992, the Cocoa Village Playhouse became an official corporate name, and it has a rich history . The organization began with only eight young people and now boasts 264 active participants during each season.

This theatre is an integral part of Cocoa’s cultural landscape.

The Playhouse was originally owned by Brevard Community College, which subsequently returned the theater to the City of Cocoa. It is now managed by a nonprofit organization, the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse, Inc., and a 501(c)(3) organization.

In 2012, the Playhouse opened for its 23rd season and renovated its auditorium. Its balcony was enlarged and expanded, and a new orchestra pit was installed. It is considered one of the most beautiful theatres in the state.

Another unique aspect of the Cocoa Village Playhouse is the presence of a live orchestra in each production. Other theaters have recorded music to accompany their productions.

The playhouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992, and the Stars of Tomorrow program has nurtured more than 250 young thespians.
